About This Item: The Myles sandal is crafted on the innovative Dr. Martens Ziggy sole, featuring a lightweight, slip-resistant zig-zag design for exceptional traction. Built on the iconic, durable Dr. Martens air-cushioned sole, these sandals offer a perfect combination of style and comfort. With a sturdy yet lightweight sole, the new Dr. Martens Myles sandal is a convenient slip-on style designed for all-day wear, complete with an extra-chunky platform height for added flair.

The legendary story of Dr. Martens began near Munich, Germany in 1945, when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot while skiing in the Bavarian Alps. To aid in his recovery and make walking easier, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Utilizing old rubber tires, he created soles with air trapped in closed compartments. When he shared his prototype with his engineer friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, they decided to develop and manufacture the shoes together. Not only did the shoe resolve the doctor's immediate issue, but it also gained popularity in Germany.

By 1959, Dr. Maertens and Dr. Funck realized the need for a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then known as Dr. Maertens, globally. Initially, many manufacturers dismissed the idea of an air-cushioned sole as a passing trend. However, the R. Griggs Group in Wollaston, England, embraced the concept and created the first work boot with this innovative sole. On April 1, 1960, the cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was introduced as the 1460. To enhance the brand's appeal in England, the name was changed to Dr. Martens. The line was branded as AirWair, marking the beginning of a remarkable legacy.
